Perhaps a conflict with someone, challenging situation, unproductive meeting or difficult conversation.
Disengagement robs us of amazing insights and wisdom that unfolds from fully experiencing challenges.
Just two days ago, we spent the day in New York City and had a great time, only to find our car missing at around 9:30 pm. We weren’t sure whether the car was stolen or towed – after about an hour we did discover a sign few feet away ‘No Parking from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm’, however, it was bent – no wonder there were so many cars parked on that street. When we called 311, they informed us that the system was down and there was no way to find out if our car was towed. The pound was also closed as it was after 10:00 pm. I decided to experience the entire experience fully and the minute my mind wanted to race into complaining, resisting or stories of would have, should have, could have, I observed and brought my attention to the here and now. Through the process, I felt lighter and became the pillar of strength for my family. I called a dear friend who came to our rescue and graciously offered her place for us to spend the night. It was wonderful to catch up with our friend till wee hours of the night, it was great to be disconnected from computers for over 30 hours, moreover we captured many heart felt laughter. In the morning when we called 311, the systems were up and running and we were able to locate our car – we picked our car and were back in Connecticut by midday. What this event reinforced was the true power of being fully engaged.
Full engagement has the power of turning adversity into adventure.
Instead of being disengaged with the precious moments life is bestowing upon us, experience the experience fully and stay engaged.
Experience the experience fully
Now is all there is, stay with it
Grant your presence to what is
Accept this moment without judgment
Golden nuggets are within the experience
Encounter the Infinite Intelligence at play in the peaks and valleys
Declare freedom from the habitual patterns of the past by being in the moment
Experience this moment fully as this moment will never be exactly the same…
